چکیده

Most existing languages for the specification of active rules are based on the ECA (event-condition-action) paradigm. Usually, rules specified by such languages are triggered by simple events like the update of a tuple in a relational database. We present a specification language that can be used to specify real-time triggering conditions in terms of complex event patterns. Our specification language can be used to formulate complex, triggering conditions for active rules in terms of event patterns that involve sequences, alternations, iterations, and parallel compositions. Also, the language can be used to specify soft, real-time constraints with respect to the minimum/maximum time required/allowed between pairs of events. Our language is designed to be flexible and general in the sense that it can be combined with most ECA rule languages. We formally define the syntax and semantics of the language and we illustrate its use by means of examples. Key Terms: Active rules, Real-time constraints, Event patterns, Event control.

Issues in Active Real-Time Databases

Active databases and real-time databases have gained increased interest in recent. Both active and real-time databases are considered as important technologies for supporting non-traditional applications such as computer integrated manufacturing (CIM), process control and air-traffic control. These applications are often event driven and need to react to events in a timely and efficient manner....

Recent Developments in Discrete Event Systems

This article is a brief exposure of the process approach to a newly emerging area called "discrete event systems" in control theory and summarizes some of the recent developments in this area. Discrete event systems is an area of research that is developing within the interstices of computer, control and communication sciences. The basic direction of research addresses issues in the analysis an...

Real-time Prediction and Synchronization of Business Process Instances using Data and Control Perspective

Nowadays, in a competitive and dynamic environment of businesses, organizations need to moni-tor, analyze and improve business processes with the use of Business Process Management Systems(BPMSs). Management, prediction and time control of events in BPMS is one of the major chal-lenges of this area of research that has attracted lots of researchers. In this paper, we present a...

Real - Time Active Databases 1

In the past, real-time transaction processing systems have largely considered transaction characteristics such as deadlines and criticality to schedule/abort transactions, and to perform concurrency control and buuer management. Active database researchers have been involved in the development of system models that incorporate the Event-Condition-Action paradigm, examining issues related to the...

Enhanced active databases for federated information systems

Federated information systems provide access to interrelated data that is distributed over multiple autonomous and heterogeneous data sources. The integration of these sources demands for flexible and extensible architectures that balance both, the highest possible autonomy and a reasonable degree of information sharing. In current federated information systems, the integrated data sources do o...
